LAWRENCE - Firefighters are battling a four-alarm fire at 125 So. Broadway, the second major fire in the city today on one of the coldest days so far this winter.
The blaze was reported in a brick, three-story building at 4:40 p.m. and quickly jumped to three-alarms. Mutual aide crews from Methuen, Andover, North Andover, Haverhill, Wilmington and Salem, N.H. are also at the scene.
Heavy fire was showing from the third-floor when firefighters arrived.
Police are also restricting traffic on South Broadway as fire crews work.
The fire is in the building that houses the old Wheels and Reels store at the corner of So. Broadway and Kingston Street.
Around 10 this morning, a two-alarm fire broke out at 124 Weare St., also located off South Broadway near the Andover line. One firefighter suffered minor injuries in that blaze. Two elderly sisters lived in the home, but escaped the blaze with help from a caretaker.
Local firefighters also battled a 4-alarm fire in Lowell this afternoon at 34 Boisvert St.
