Asian Center offers citizenship, ESL classes

---- — LAWRENCE – The Asian Center of Merrimack Valley, Inc. is offering a 10-week citizenship preparation classes for people interesting in becoming a U.S. citizen.

They will be held Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Asian Center, 1 Ballard Way.

Classes will cover U.S. government and history. Participants will practice questions for the citizenship interview. Cost is $50.

The Asian Center is also accepting registration for English for speakers of other languages and pre-school classes.

ValleyWorks Career Center offers help

LAWRENCE - People between the ages of 14 and 21 who are looking for work, skills training, or help getting a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma can find assistance at ValleyWorks Career Center.

The ValleyWorks Career Center Youth Resource is located at 439 S. Union St., Building 2, Suite 106. The center also has an office at 192 Merrimack St., Haverhill.

St. Patrick’s Day events planned

LAWRENCE - The 142nd St. Patrick Day banquet and dance will be celebrated March 9, 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Lawrence Firefighter’s Relief’s In, 1 Market St. Tickets are $26.

The Hibernians will host its annual corned beef and cabbage luncheon March 15 at noon.

Tickets for both can be obtained by mailing a check to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, P.O. Box 1407, Lawrence, Ma. 01843.

Registration for baseball, softball announced

LAWRENCE - The South Lawrence West Little League is looking to increase its softball rosters for women this year.

The league will offer more teams and clinics from T-ball to high school.

Registration cost for softball is $50 for T-ball ages 5-6 and rookie, ages 7-8 and $100 for 10U ages 9-10; 12U ages 11-12 and 16U ages 13-16.

South Lawrence West Little Little League is also having registration for baseball Feb. 2 at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, 136 Water St.; Feb. 9 at Lawrence Elks Club, 652 Andover St., both from 9 a.m. to noon and March 1 at Carleens Restaurant, 209 S. Broadway from 6 to 8 p.m.

Registration cost is $50 for T-ball, ages 5 and 6; and AA ages 7 and 8 ; $75 for AAA, ages 9 and 10; $115 for Majors ages 11-12 and $125 for teenagers 13 and older.
