LAWRENCE – Firefighters quickly knocked down a single-alarm blaze that broke out in a four-family Boxford Street home early yesterday afternoon.
The fire ignited in the roof on a second-floor back porch at 201 Boxford St. After extinguishing the fire, crews then pulled out walls to make sure no flames extended inside, Deputy Chief Brian Murphy said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation yesterday but appears accidental, Murphy said.
No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $6,500, Murphy said.
Two of the four families that live in the building were displaced yesterday. The families were working with the landlord to find temporary housing, Murphy said.
Built in 1910, the home is valued at $237,300 and is owned by Carlos Antigua, according to city records.
