LAWRENCE — Scott Scharffenberg, Assistant Superintendent of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, recently graduated from the FBI’s National Academy Program in Quantico, Va.
Scharffenberg is the Assistant Superintendent at the Lawrence Correctional Alternative Center, and has been with the department since 1990.
He was among 259 law enforcement officers who graduated from the National Academy Program last month. They included members of law enforcement agencies from 49 states, the District of Columbia, 29 countries, four military organizations and six federal civilian organizations.

On average, these officers have 19 years of law enforcement experience, and often return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
