Fund honors woman who died on ship

Groveland native's passion for art will be remembered

GROVELAND — A fund has been established through a local arts foundation to honor the life of Jaquelyn “Jackie” Kastrinelis, the 24-year-old performing artist and Pentucket Regional High School graduate who died unexpectedly over the weekend aboard a cruise ship docked in northern Australia.

The Kastrinelis family, who remains in seclusion in their Groveland home, is greatly appreciative of the overwhelming support they have received from the community over the past few days during this difficult time, reports Beth-Anne Grunzweig, funeral director for the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home in Haverhill, which is overseeing the arrangements for the young woman.

However, in lieu of flowers and other remembrances, the family asks that people wishing to honor “their Jackie” in some way instead make a contribution to the Jaquelyn Kastrinelis Fund for the Performing Arts, in care of The Pentucket Arts Foundation, P.O. Box 254, West Newbury 01985.

The fund will be used to support the artistic endeavors that were most meaningful to Kastrinelis during her years at Pentucket, the family says.

Kastrinelis, who was the lead vocalist for Regent Cruise line’s luxury ship Seven Seas Voyager, was found dead in her cabin Sunday morning. The cause of death is inconclusive at this time. She was the daughter of Groveland deputy fire Chief Michael Kastrinelis and former selectwoman and Pentucket Regional School Committee chairwoman Kathleen Kastrinelis.

A 2006 graduate of Pentucket High School, Jackie Kastrinelis was a member of Pentucket’s Fine and Performing Arts program. She was the jazz singer and trumpet player for the high school’s Big Band, a member of the school’s marching band and a dedicated actor in the Pentucket theater program, where she is remembered for her portrayal of Ritchie in “A Chorus Line,” Arvide Abernathy in “Guys and Dolls” and the Cat in the Hat in “Seussical.”
