LAWRENCE — A city man with an apparent penchant for personal hygiene was arrested Monday night for allegedly shoplifting a variety of health and beauty aids from Market Basket.
Frank Gaton, 26, was arrested and charged with shoplifting by concealment after he tucked four Gillette deodorants, three large bottles of Pantene hair conditioner, two Aveeno moisturizers, seven Oral B toothbrushes and two apples in his zipper sweatshirt, according to a report by Officer Timothy Dube.
The value of the concealed items was $112.20, according to Dube’s report.
At 7 p.m., security managers at the 700 Essex St. store saw Gaton stuffing the items into his sweatshirt with surveillance cameras and notified police.
As Dube approached Gaton in the store to arrest him, Gaton tried to discard the items in a nearby carriage.
Burglar wakes Lawrence family
LAWRENCE — A family living on the second floor of a Haverhill Street home was awakened early Monday morning when someone broke into their apartment.
A resident living on the second floor of 81 Haverhill St. said he and his children woke up when they heard a loud crashing sound at 12:45 a.m. The father got out of bed, went into kitchen and “saw a figure rush” into his children’s bedroom, he told Officer John Tully.
The father yelled and the intruder ran from the apartment. It was dark in the apartment and the man said he didn’t get a good look at the intruder. He could describe him only as a man wearing a 3/4-length black coat with a fur-lined hood.
Pry marks on a door knob and a dead bolt on a living room door were later found. A 4-inch folding knife was also found on the floor, next to the door. Police seized the knife for possible fingerprints.
