METHUEN — Methuen students begin the first day of the new school year today, but Methuen High School students will be released early because that school's air conditioning unit is broken.
School officials sent out a phone message to students, alerting them that they'll be released at 11:09 a.m. — before the building gets too hot.
The air conditioner is slated to be fixed tomorrow. Students at the other Methuen schools will have a regular schedule.
LAWRENCE — Nearly a month after beginning the job of running the Lawrence Public Schools, state-appointed Superintendent/Receiver Jeffrey C. Riley will soon begin crafting a "turnaround plan" aimed at dramatic improvements in the city's troubled education system.
