Police log

LAWRENCE — Four brand-new tires reported stolen from the city DPW yard on Auburn Street turned out not to have been taken from the property after all.

Officer Richard Brooks was sent to the yard at 10:30 a.m. Monday, where he met a DPW worker who was upset because his supervisor had accused him of stealing the missing tires. The supervisor allegedly told the worker, "I want those tires back today," and "you know where the tires are."

Officer Chad Lawlor was fueling his cruiser a short time later when another DPW worker approached him and said he had the missing tires, that he had stored them in a different stall so they would not be stolen.

The worker told Lawlor he would put the tires back where they were.
