Victim in fatal stabbing remains unidentified

METHUEN — Before he died, the victim of a stabbing at 150 Center St. Thursday night repeatedly told a Spanish-speaking police officer he didn't know who did it him, police said.

"We think he did not believe he was going to die and he did not want to give it up," Methuen police Capt. Thomas Fram said yesterday.

Police were still not releasing the victim's name late yesterday, and were awaiting family members to arrive from out of state to identify the body, Fram said.

He said Herb Stacy, the Spanish-speaking officer, rode in the ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital with the victim in the event he did speak. But the man died late Thursday night after emergency surgery, taking the name of his attacker to his grave.

Police were called to the house at 150 Center St. about 7:06 p.m. after receiving a cell phone call transferred from the state police, and found the 32-year-old victim at the side of the house suffering from stab wounds.

Fram said investigators believe there was an altercation inside the house where the stabbing occurred.

"The blood trail led out of the house, down the back steps and around to the side of the house, where he was found," Fram said.

Fram said the victim did not speak English.

According to the police log, a black Nissan Maxima was seen speeding away from the Center Street location and was last seen traveling north on Route 28.
