---- — ANDOVER — Steven Mitton, who suffered a broken pelvis in a jet ski accident on Lake Winnipesaukee on Sunday afternoon, was reported to be in fair condition at Massachusetts General Hospital yesterday.

Mitton, 56, of Andover, and an unidentified 8-year-old girl were ejected from the jet ski when it exploded, according to the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol. The girl suffered a head laceration.

The explosion happened when Mitton tried to start the engine, according to the Marine Patrol. The two were transported to Lakes General Hospital in Laconia, then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital. The accident was reported at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

Fair condition means that the patient is conscious and may be uncomfortable, but the prognosis for recovery is favorable.
