Countdown to Kindergarten

---- — LAWRENCE — Imajine That brought Countdown to Kindergarten to Lawrence for the first time yesterday, wanting to celebrate the 1,200 city kids on their way to school for the first time.

Countdown to Kindergarten offered a wide range of informative materials to make children’s transition into kindergarten a successful one.

The event featured Storyteller Nicolette Nordin Heavey, activities, a "DW Goes to Kindergarten" play presented by the Boston’s Children’s Museum, and appearances by Chirp from "Peep in the Big Wide World" and Leona from the WGBH award-winning "Between the Lions" series. Guest speakers included Jeff Riley, Superintendent of Lawrence Public Schools, and Susan Leger Ferraro, Founder of Imajine That.

Free backpacks and T-shirts were provided by Cradles to Crayons for the first 500 attendees.

Sponsors and vendors included WGBH, Salvatore’s, Sal’s, Lawrence Public Schools, Lowell General Hospital, Small Smiles Dental, Greater Lawrence Community Action Center and Whole Foods.
