NORTH ANDOVER — So far, no mosquitoes found in North Andover have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or EEE, Board of Health Chairman Thomas Trowbridge said last night.
Nevertheless, the town asked the Northeast Mosquito Control District to spray the perimeters of the town’s playing fields the evening of Aug. 15, Trowbridge noted. It was more prudent to do the spraying in the middle of August rather than a few weeks later because more people use the fields when schools are in session, he said.
Trowbridge said the Northeast Mosquito Control District checks the insects that are caught in its traps.
“We’re getting regular updates,” he said. If the agency recommends spraying, he said, the Board of Health will authorize it.
In the meantime, Trowbridge recommends that residents take precautions to guard against mosquito bites.
“Wear protective clothing,” he said, when going outside. He also urged people to use insect repellent.
