LAWRENCE — Police officers investigating a reported shooting on Prospect Street Sunday night found spent shell casings, and later a man with stab wounds instead of gunshot wounds.
"It appears this guy was stabbed, but we know there were gunshots fired at the scene," police Chief John Romero said yesterday. "We have no motive and at this point, no suspects."
Officers went to Prospect and Haverhill Street about 6:40 p.m. Sunday where witnesses told them someone from inside a black Honda parked near 162 Prospect St., fired four shots.
One witness told police he had just come home from a supermarket when he was asked by his cousin and some friends to drive Bryant Rosario, 21, to Lawrence General Hospital.
Detectives Paul MacMillan and Kevin Nigohosian spoke to the group and were told they were hanging out playing video games at a house on Prospect Street when Rosario showed up screaming he had been stabbed and shot.
He told police he was coming back from a bodega at Vine and East Haverhill Street and walked by a tall thin man wearing a gray hoodie who stabbed him in the back and that someone fired shots at him.
