Suspicious license plate leads to big arrest in Andover

---- — ANDOVER — A routine check on a suspicious vehicle ended in a sizable arrest for police Saturday afternoon.

Andover Police Patrolmen Matthew Hughes and Angelo Taveras were driving on River Road when a missing front license plate on a passing vehicle caused them to check out the car and run its rear plate for any violations, according to Andover Police Lt. Eddie Guy.

What they found was that the plate was stolen, at which point they pulled the vehicle over, according to Guy.

After an investigation during the stop, police arrested who they thought was Jonathan Rivera, who reported he was a 26-year-old Lawrence resident. At the time, he was charged on a number of motor vehicle charges.

While booking him, “they conducted a fingerprint check on who they believed he gave his last name as,” Guy said.

After the check wrapped up, police learned their guy had a different name — and a history, according to Guy.

Arrested was Jeffrey Castro, 25, of 14 Sargent Ave in Lawrence.

More charges were added, and a warrant check on Castro turned up four outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to Guy.

In the end, Castro was charged with receiving stolen property under $250, giving a false name during booking, attaching the wrong plates to a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, possessing or using a false or stolen Registry of Motor Vehicles document, giving a false name and address to police in relation to a motor vehicle violation, driving an uninsured motor vehicle or trailer and driving an unregistered motor vehicle, according to police documents.

He was also charged on the four outstanding warrants, which included charges for resisting arrest, escaping from a police officer, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and assault and battery on a police officer, Guy said.
