Methuen detective to be honored

---- — METHUEN — Detective John Delano has been selected as the 2013 Police Officer of the Year award by the Methuen Exchange Club.

In selecting him for the honor the Exchange Club cited his work in helping with capture of the suspected “Merrimack Valley Bandit” wanted for a string of bank robberies and for his work that led to the arrest and conviction of a serial rapist.

Anyone interested in attending the Methuen Exchange Club’s Celebration and Award Ceremony, it is Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Merrimack Golf Course 210 Howe St., Methuen. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by contacting Linda Buell (978) 618-1828.

Free program at NECC for non-native English speakers

LAWRENCE — Advanced non-native English speakers who are looking to raise their reading and writing skills to the college-level are invited to attend the Career Pathways Bridge Program Information Session on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. The information session will be held at NECC Riverwalk, 360 Merrimack St., Building 9, Entry K, Room 310. This program is offered by Northern Essex Community College and it will begin this winter.

In this free, two-semester program, students will explore business and technology careers; improve their English reading and writing skills; learn business communication, computer applications, and workplace skills; and earn six college credits. This program is open to advanced English speakers with a high school diploma, G.E.D., or college degree from another country. Admission to this program is based on a placement test.

At the Nov. 14 information session, individuals will meet with an advising team to identify goals, receive support with the process, and create a personalized plan for college. For more information contact Sheila Corsaro at scorsaro@necc.mass.edu.

Holiday Faire in Andover Saturday

ANDOVER — Creative Living Inc. holds its ninth annual Holiday Faire featuring one-of-a kind pieces by area artisans on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Andover Country Club, 60 Canterbury St. Santa will be available for pictures from 1 to 3 p.m., so bring your camera.

Barbershop Chorus to hold bookfair fundraiser
