Police looking for hit-and-run driver who hurt pedestrian

NORTH ANDOVER — Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck and seriously injured a man who was attempting to cross Route 114 on Thursday night.

Michael Wilson, described as a middle-aged man, was walking home from his job at Market Basket and crossing Route 114 at Waverly Road when he was hit by a car that failed to stop, according to Alan Wester, of North Andover, a friend of the victim.

Wilson was hit between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. He was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, according to Lt. Charles Gray, spokesman for the North Andover Police Department.

Wester said Wilson was in the crosswalk when he was hit.

“He is very, very lucky to be alive,” Wester said. Wilson declined to talk to a reporter.

Officer Patrick Beirne is investigating the hit-and-run accident. Anyone with information about the vehicle that struck Wilson is asked to call Beirne at the North Andover police station at 978-683-3168.
