Police looking for hit-and-run driver who hurt pedestrian

---- — NORTH ANDOVER β€” Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck and seriously injured a man who was attempting to cross Route 114 on Thursday night.

Michael Wilson, described as a middle-aged man, was walking home from his job at Market Basket and crossing Route 114 at Waverly Road when he was hit by a car that failed to stop, according to Alan Wester, of North Andover, a friend of the victim.

Wilson was hit between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. He was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, according to Lt. Charles Gray, spokesman for the North Andover Police Department.

Wester said Wilson was in the crosswalk when he was hit.

β€œHe is very, very lucky to be alive,” Wester said. Wilson declined to talk to a reporter.

Officer Patrick Beirne is investigating the hit-and-run accident. Anyone with information about the vehicle that struck Wilson is asked to call Beirne at the North Andover police station at 978-683-3168.
