METHUEN — A young cat was found abandoned in a small travel crate wrapped in a blanket on the front lawn near the entrance to the MSPCA during the storm Thursday night.
Methuen police Lt. Kevin Martin said police were alerted to the presence of the cat by an anonymous caller about 10:30 p.m. who said they were driving by the MSPCA and heard the cat crying.
Officer Christine Nicolosi was sent to the area and pulled into the driveway.
"I turned around and saw a little blanket like in a ball," Nicolosi said. "I opened the blanket and shined my flashlight in and there was a cat looking up at me from a tipped over crate."
Nicolosi also recovered a bag of food and a note left with the cat.
The note stated "Sorry cat's name is Lovlee and I think she is pregnant."
The note also indicated the little brown tiger cat was born in June, Nicolosi said.
Martin and Nicolosi believe the person who called police was the same person who left the cat there.
"It had to be," Nicolosi said. "I pulled in and I couldn't hear it. Some people. They couldn't wait until morning to drop it off at the MSPCA."
She said the cat was brought back to the station and kept dispatchers on the late night shift company.
The cat was taken to the MSPCA's shelter yesterday morning, police said.
