METHUEN — More than 100 golfers and 20 volunteers showed up to honor the late Dennis Bistany at the Dennis Bistany Memorial Golf Tournament Monday at Merrimack Golf Club. Bistany died last summer in a drowning accident in Newfound Lake in New Hampshire. He was a Marsh Grammar School teacher and held various baseball coaching positions in the area over the years.
A group of his longtime friends organized the tournament to raise money for a scholarship fund in his memory. The event raised $18,000, according to organizers.
The winning team consisted of Kevin McGovern, Bryan Duplissie, Pat Spellman and Mark Fitzgerald. John Stikeman sunk a hole in one on Hole 6.
