NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A truck driver from Georgia has been charged with death by auto in connection with a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that killed a comedian and injured four others, including actor and comedian Tracy Morgan.
Middlesex County prosecutors say 35-year-old Kevin Roper of Jonesboro also faces four counts of assault by auto stemming from the crash.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Roper’s bail was set at $50,000.
Roper’s tractor-trailer allegedly rammed into a chauffeured limousine bus that Morgan was riding in.
Walmart President Bill Simon issued a statement that said one of the firm’s trucks was involved in the accident.
He said Walmart will take full responsibility if authorities determine the company’s truck caused the accident.
Morgan and the two others remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday night.
Morgan is a nationally known comedian.
