Firefighters battle stubborn blaze in Derry

DERRY — Firefighters from five communities battled a large brush fire Wednesday afternoon in the woods behind 14 Fairway Drive.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, a 400-square-foot area was burning — and spreading.

Firefighters called for help and started an aggressive attack.

Derry firefighters were assisted by Derry police and firefighters from Londonderry, Hampstead, Windham and Chester. It took about four and a half hours to bring the fire under control, according to the Derry Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Derry Fire Department Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The Derry Fire Department reminds everyone to use caution when disposing of smoking materials. Residents should call 432-6121 to check if burning is allowed.
