Two vie for Newton treasurer's post

NEWTON — Two candidates are running for a one-year term as town treasurer.

The candidates are John Caiazza and Arthur Graichen. The election is March 11.

The two seek to serve the remainder of Brenda Fiers’ three-year term. Fiers was elected in March 2012, defeating incumbent Deidre Castle.

But Fiers later stepped down from the position. Diane Morin has served as treasurer in her absence.

Graichen, an accountant, said he looks forward to putting his financial experience to work if elected town treasurer. Caiazza could not be reached for an interview.

Arthur Graichen

Age: 60

Occupation: Accountant

Incumbent: No

Elective experience: None

What is the most important issue facing the treasurer? Maintaining integrity over the financial records.
