Sanborn bomb threat suspect arrested

KINGSTON — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with scrawling a bomb threat on a mirror in a Sanborn Regional High School restroom Monday.

Kingston police Chief Donald Briggs Jr. said the student was arrested at the school yesterday afternoon on a charge of creating a false public alarm and later released to the custody of a parent.

The student’s name was not released because he is a juvenile.

He is to appear in Family Court in Brentwood, but a date has not been set. Briggs said the arrest was made with the help of a handwriting sample and evidence recovered by police.

Students and staff were evacuated to the school’s gymnasium at about 10:30 a.m. Monday after a school staff member saw the message and reported it to the administration, principal Brian Stack said.

The message said there was a bomb in the restroom, Briggs said.

Students and staff remained in the gym while authorities investigated, returning to their classes and offices at about 11:15 a.m.
