Coalition of Care meets in Salem
SALEM — The Western Rockingham Coalition of Care will meet Wednesday to discuss homelessness and decreasing resources to help those in need.
The meeting is from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Triumphant Cross Church, 171 Zion Hill Road.
The coalition brings members of the community together to help meet the demands for housing, food and medical care in western Rockingham County.

Christmas dinner cooking in Salem
SALEM — A free Christmas Day dinner will be served to residents at the Knights of Columbus, 37 Main St.
The meal is from noon to 3 p.m. Rides will be provided if needed and meals can be delivered.
The event is organized through the support of the Knights of Columbus, Saints Mary and Joseph Church and the Salem Christmas Fund.

Simon offers college scholarships
SALEM — Simon Youth Foundation will be awarding a college scholarship to a local student.
The foundation, formed in conjunction with Simon Property Group, is a national nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to at-risk high school students. Simon Property Group manages The Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem.
Any student who lives within 50 miles of the mall and will graduate in 2014 is eligible. The deadline to apply for up to $1,500 is Jan. 11.
Scholarship applications are available at the Simon Guest Services Center at the mall. Applications can also be downloaded from the Simon Youth Foundation website at Syf.org/our-initiatives/scholarships/community-application.
