“It’s great that the Red Sox organization is able to display the trophy in communities throughout the region,” said State Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives, whose office requested and is coordinating the visit. “I’m happy they were able to bring the Commissioner’s Trophy to the Merrimack Valley during the holidays at a time when so many families are gathered together and will have the opportunity get to take a memorable photo with it.”
“We enjoy bringing the trophy and the joy that surrounds it to the communities who support the Red Sox so passionately,” said Dr. Charles A. Steinberg, the Red Sox’ Executive Vice President & Senior Advisor to the President/CEO. “During the summer, so many families and friends connect with the Red Sox--and with each other--at Fenway Park. During the winter, we enjoy bringing our ‘Road Show’ to fans in their hometowns as well. We enjoy making house calls.”
The trophy has made a series of appearances throughout New England since Oct. 30, when the Red Sox clinched the World Series by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 at Fenway Park. That game marked the first time Red Sox had won the World Championship in Boston since 1918. This is the team’s third World Series Championship since 2002, and was also a landmark way to celebrate Fenway Park’s 101st year.
“The Red Sox are an institution that draws millions of visitors to Massachusetts each year,” said O’Connor Ives, who is the Senate Chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development. “By celebrating the trophy we are celebrating this year’s victory, the team’s success, and the organization’s historic stewardship of Fenway Park, which is part of their lasting contribution to the region.”
