EAST HAMPSTEAD — A long-time Atkinson Country Club employee was killed in a crash in Salisbury, Mass., on New Year’s Eve.
Donna Bergeron, 41, of E. Hampstead was a passenger in a Lincoln Town Car driven by Mikhael Sarkis, 50, of Lawrence. Sarkis is expected to face charges as a result of the accident.
Sarkis was driving north on the southbound side of the Route 1 Gillis Bridge at 11:20 p.m. Monday.
Sarkis’s car struck a Mercury Marquis head on. That car was driven by Corey Burgess, 20, of Salisbury, who was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.
Sarkis is at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston with serious injuries. A second passenger in his car, Clifford Pollard, 62, of Salisbury, was injured and taken to Anna Jaques Hospital.
“We do think alcohol was involved,” Salisbury police Chief Thomas Fowler said.
Hampstead police Lt. John Frazier said Bergeron lived alone in an apartment at 3 Lewis Lane. Police said they had a difficult time locating Bergeron’s family to make the death notification.
Bergeron worked for five years as a bartender and server at the Atkinson Country Club.
“She was an extremely dedicated employee and she was liked by all her peers, our guests and members,” said Kristin Perry, controller at Atkinson Country Club. “She will be missed.”
A spokeswoman from the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem said Bergeron’s body has not yet been released from the medical examiner’s office.
