PLAISTOW — The Timberlane Community Band and Volare Jazz Band present “The Sounds of the ‘40s” as the musical program for their 14th annual Spring Pops Concert, Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday, April 4, at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club.
This year’s gala will also include a dance floor, along with a dance presentation and brief lessons by members of the Krystal Ballroom Dance Studio of Salem.
Guests are urged to arrive in their 1940s finest, including clothes, hair and makeup. Servicemen and women might want to dress in uniform for the event. Backdrops, set pieces and table settings will all evoke a 1940s ambience.
Festivities will commence at 6 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
An array of silent auction items will be up for bid. Kokopelli, the band’s diverse flute ensemble, will entertain with tunes from the 1940s. Auction items include sports tickets and memorabilia, regional concert and theater tickets, restaurant, salon and spa gift certificates, automotive services and accessories, and numerous gift baskets.
Some of the most unique baskets are those created and donated by the various instrument sections of the band. One of the night’s most popular auction items has been the opportunity to “grab the baton” and lead the band as guest conductor.
A buffet dinner will be offered at 6:30, p.m.,after which the Volare Jazz Band, led by Nick Mainella, will entertain with 1940s standards for dining and dancing. They will be followed by the Timberlane Community Band, with Kurt Schweiss, an addition to the conducting triumvirate which includes Anthony DiBartolomeo and John Mainella.
Proceeds from this 1940s musical revue will benefit the Timberlane Community Band Scholarship Fund and the Timberlane Performing Arts Center. To date, the TCB has provided more than $15,000 in donations for scholarships and equipment to the Timberlane Regional School District.
Tickets are $40 per person and should be purchased prior to the event. Call Kathleen McGuirk at 382-5313 or Rick Incollingo at 898-4959 for tickets and information, or visit timberlanecommuityband.org or www.facebook.com/TCBbandpage.
