Salem High students excel on AP exams

---- — SALEM — This past spring, 99 Salem High students took 14 different AP exams, for a total of 152 exams. The score report indicated that 87 percent of the scores were 3 or above.

In addition, CollegeBoard recently announced the names of the 2013 AP Scholars. Twenty-six students at SHS were named AP Scholars (score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams). Among them, 12 were named AP Scholar with Honor (average of at least 3.25 on all AP exams and score of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams), two were awarded the title of AP Scholar with Distinction (average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and score of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams).

AP Scholars include Travis Adamson, Zachary Arnold, Shannon Foglia, Paul Giandomenico, Naomi Houle, Sahil Kalyani, Michael Maggio, Leila Melhem, Robert Merritt, Leawndra Oseghali, Jonathan Rheaume and David Rodriguez.

AP Scholars with Honor are Joshua Boutin, Kelsey Card, Noelle Castilla Ojo, Darrin DeChane, Kara English, Aidan Fischer, Justin Juranovits, Jillian McColgan, Hari Nath, Rishi Patel, Jacob Sidney and Brian Sullivan.

AP Scholars with Distinction are Neal Foley and Jamie Shore.

EAST HAMPSTEAD — The Autumn Penny Sale to benefit the East Hampstead Union Church Operating Fund will be held on Saturday at the Vic Geary Center, 18 Greenough Road, Plaistow.

Buy 25 tickets for $1 at the ticket table as early as 10:00 a.m. Doors open at noon when participants may place tickets in the cups for the items they wish to win.

Winning tickets for the Penny Sale are drawn and announced starting at 7 p.m. Winners must be present during the drawing to claim their Penny Sale prizes. More tickets will be drawn until a winning ticket holder comes forward. The drawing ends at approximately 10 p.m.

More than 300 prizes include housewares, dolls, toys, and gift items for the whole family and pets, too. Numerous gifts and gift certificates from area businesses will be awarded throughout the evening. Additional items will be raffled off for $1 per ticket.

Hot dogs, soup, sandwiches, nachos, chips, light desserts and beverages will be available at noon. The site is ramp accessible. For more information, call 378-0683 or email ehuc@comcast.net.

Middle-schoolers, this dance is for you

PLAISTOW — The Knights of Columbus will be holding the second Middle School Dance of the school year for children in sixth through eighth grades on Friday.

The dance is held at St. Luke’s Church Hall (formerly Holy Angels) on Route 121 near the Haverhill/Atkinson line. The dance runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The admission cost is $5 and there is also a concession stand.
