WINDHAM — Police have charged a Windham woman with prostitution.
Nicole St. Germaine, 39, was arrested about 10:45 p.m. Thursday at her home on North Lowell Road, police said.
Police allege she agreed to meet a detective at her home and perform a sex act for $125.
The arrest followed a two-week investigation.
Capt. Mike Caron said St. Germaine herself contacted police about an unrelated harassment complaint, but refused to provide information.
Wanting to be sure she was safe, they looked up her phone number on the Internet and traced it to an online escort ad, he said.
St. Germaine, also known as Nicole Scipione, was released on $2,500 personal recognizance.
She is scheduled to be arraigned July 15 in 10th Circuit Court in Salem on the misdemeanor charge.
“Prostitution is not prevalent in Windham,” Caron said.
He said he could not recall the department’s last prostitution-related arrest.
He said there have been at least a couple of cases in the past, though he personally has not had to investigate one in his 21 years with the department.
