Salem police release sketch of suspect

Man accused of luring teen

SALEM — Police are continuing to look for a man they say tried to coax a 14-year-old girl into his car while she waited for a school bus Wednesday.

The Salem Police Department released a sketch of the man this morning, hoping it would encourage people to provide tips. The incident remains under investigation, Deputy Chief Shawn Patten said.

The man stopped on Lou Avenue, near School Street, about 7:15 a.m. and asked if the girl wanted a ride to school, Patten said.

The driver told the girl he knew her parents, but she declined the ride and the car drove off. The girl immediately called her father, who then called police, Patten said.

The man is described as white, in his 30s, wearing a green button-down shirt and having "mousy" facial features and orange hair.

The car is a white, four-door sedan believed to have New Hampshire license plates.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Salem police at 893-1911 or Southern NH Crimeline at 893-6600.
