Windham man charged in Celtics ticket sales scam

Police Logs

METHUEN — Detectives arrested a Windham man yesterday in what police said was a Celtics tickets sales scam.

Joseph M. Palermo, 65, Manor Hotel, Windham, was arrested at Borrelli’s Deli at 322 Merrimack St. yesterday at 9:30 a.m. and charged with larceny greater than $250 and larceny greater than $250 by means of false pretenses.

Detectives said Palermo told a restaurant owner in the city that he could provide tickets for a Celtics game in January for a fee. Palermo received and cashed a check from the restaurant owner for $605, police said, but no tickets ever arrived. Police called the Celtics box office, which told them he “did not and could not obtain tickets,” according to a police statement.

Along with the new Methuen charges, police said Palermo will was held on warrants from Palmer (larceny and intimidation of a witness), Newburyport (larceny of a motor vehicle), Barnstable (larceny by false pretenses) and Falmouth (larceny).

Detectives Richard Pilz, John Delano, Charles Dejesus and Tom McMenamon investigated the original report
