Londonderry woman dies in Hampstead crash

HAMPSTEAD — A 42-year-old Londonderry woman was killed in a two-car accident Saturday night on Route 121.

Althea Hicks died at Parkland Medical Center in Derry shortly after the Nissan Xterra she was driving was struck by a Hyundai driven by Carlos Herrera, 30, of Clinton, Mass., according to Hampstead police Lt. John Frazier.

Hicks was heading south on Route 121 and Herrera had been traveling west on Emerson Avenue when the accident occurred about 6:50 p.m., Frazier said.

Herrera struck Hicks' vehicle while turning left onto Route 121, causing the sport utility vehicle to flip onto its roof, Frazier said.

Hicks' passenger, Jay Nixon, 51, of Hampstead, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Parkland.

Herrera's passengers were taken to Parkland for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening. They were identified as Jillian Gould, 29; Melana Hewitt, 4; and Eleanor Cormier, 84. They are all from Fitchburg, Mass.

Hampstead police are still investigating the cause of the crash. The Derry Police Department's accident reconstruction team assisted Hampstead police.
