Chris Sununu, an Executive Council 3 incumbent, took several towns by wide margins in yesterday’s elections.
Sununu, a Republican, was doubling Democratic challenger Bill Duncan in votes from Atkinson, East Kingston, Hampstead, Kingston, Newton, Pelham, Plaistow and Windham early this morning. The district includes 35 towns.
Sununu, a Newfield resident, had 20,728 votes in towns reporting their results last night. Duncan, a New Castle resident, had 10,843 votes, and Libertarian candidate Michael Baldassarre had 1,608 votes.
The Executive Council advises the governor and provides a check on his or her power.
Hampstead resident Mike McConnell said he listened to Sununu and Duncan speak during the race, but he felt that Sununu was “the best person” for the job.
“He comes from a good background,” he said. “I believe he’s the man for the position.”
Atkinson resident Rod MacDonald said he also voted for Sununu because “I’m familiar with Sununu, but I haven’t seen much about the other candidate.”
