Gatturna is a Chautauqua storyteller and actress. Since 1990, she has toured the Northeast bringing her one-woman shows to colleges, libraries, clubs and historical societies. She developed this role with help from the staff at the Paul Revere House. Bringing to life the story of the Boston Tea Party, the Midnight Ride, and the Siege of Boston, Rachel Revere will describe how she had to keep the home fires burning while her husband fanned the fires of revolution.
This event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Light refreshments will be served.
American Legion needs more ham radio operators
Hurricane Sandy will go down in the record books as one of the most severe storms of all times. It created massive flooding, power outages, loss of property and many lives were lost. With the loss of power, ham operators from the American Legion Amateur Radio Club sprang into action.
The club is “a nationwide volunteer unit that can and does aid the local community, state and national emergency officials during civil or natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. The strength of this organization is in the local communities where they live.” The club was established in May 2011 and has quickly grown in membership.
There is a great need for more ham operators. Legionnaires who want further information are urged to visit legion.org/hamradio and look under Club Resources.
