---- — NEWTON — An Epping man fled the scene of an accident after he crashed his father’s van into a tree on Monday night, police said.
Henry DeBoer Jr., 26, was driving a white Chevrolet express van at around 10 p.m. when he lost control going around a corner on Smith Corner Road, according to police.
The van went off the road and crashed into a tree, causing damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. DeBoer was alone in the car.
Officer Christopher Thurlow said witnesses told him DeBoer immediately ran away from the accident toward Plaistow. Thurlow contacted the owner of the van, DeBoer’s father, Henry DeBoer Sr. The van was registered to the elder DeBoer’s business, Epping Well and Pump.
Police didn’t talk to Henry DeBoer Jr., Thurlow said, but did speak to his attorney yesterday.
The lawyer told police his client suffered minor injuries in the crash. It was unclear what caused the accident.
Thurlow said DeBoer will be charged with a misdemeanor charge of conduct after an accident.
Plaistow and Kingston police also responded to the accident.
