Hampstead Library has a lot on tap

HAMPSTEAD — The first Books for Breakfast event of 2013 at Hampstead Public Library takes place on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m.

This event is designed to give families a chance to spend time together in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Come enjoy books, crafts, hot drinks and breakfast. There is no charge.

In honor of A.A. Milne’s birthday, staff and patrons are taking a trip to the Hundred Acre Woods at Hampstead Public Library. On Saturday Jan. 12, at 12:30 p.m., come see “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”

Celebrate with the magical and heartwarming stories that have delighted families for generations. Be there to experience the first time Tigger and Pooh meet. Chuckle when Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit’s house. Enjoy the flurry of activity of a blustery day. This movie is suitable for adults and kids of all ages.

Feel free to pack a lunch or snack and bring it along for this wonderful “Brown Bag Matinée” movie.

Library staff members have been busy making a few changes to the children’s book areas. Beginner chapter book series such as the “Magic Tree House,” “Junie B Jones,” and “Captain Underpants” have been given new ‘EJ’ labels and moved closer to the Early Reader section.

A table for work and play has been added to the picture book area. Shelves have been removed and books rearranged to make room for a table in the J-novel area.

Now, children and parents can relax and play mind-bender games, do puzzles and look at books. These improvements have been made to increase ease of use and patron comfort.

The next meeting of the Hampstead Public Library Non-Fiction Book Discussion Group has been changed to Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.

The book to be discussed is “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid” by Bill Bryson. Warm and laugh-out-loud funny, this memoir is full of Bryson’s pitch-perfect observations. Copies of the book are available at the library’s front desk.
