---- — A former New Hampshire Democratic Party chairman is launching a movement to draft Hillary Clinton for president.

Chris Spirou announced formation of the committee yesterday.

“I don’t know whether she will be receptive or not,” Spirou said. “But her supporters in New Hampshire and the country are receptive to urging her to run.”

Spirou said supporters believe Clinton – former secretary of state, U.S. senator and first lady – can be the first female president.

Spirou has formed “In 2016, Run Hillary Run” to recruit supporters for the campaign.

He said they will soon have a website, In2016RunHillaryRun.org.

Spirou supported Clinton in her 2008 run for the White House.

New Hampshire has a history of using draft efforts to get candidates into the race, Spirou said.

His 45 years in politics in New Hampshire have taught him this, he said: “I never knew it was ever too early to think there was a primary.”

Clinton already is polling as the Democratic front-runner in the New Hampshire primary, far ahead of the runner-up, Vice President Joe Biden.

So a draft may not be necessary.

“It’s already clear that Clinton will have a lot of support here if she chooses to run,” University of New Hampshire political science professor Dante Scala said.
