Firefighting camp is for young women only

---- — CONCORD — Camp Fully Involved, an experience that provides young women with a unique overview of the firefighting profession, will be held at the New Hampshire Fire Academy July 28-Aug. 2.

Young women ages 14, who have completed the eighth grade, to 20 years old, who are considering the fire or emergency medical services for a career and those looking for a summer adventure are encouraged to apply. Applications are available at campfullyinvolved.com.

The camp provides the candidates a safe, dynamic, interactive and physically challenging environment to gain strength and knowledge while building confidence and leadership skills. This is done by providing the opportunity for young women to do things that they may have never done before and may never do again. The objective is to build that inner strength and confidence that comes with accomplishment and success.

Last year, participants came from all New England states, New York, Florida, California and Oregon. International campers came from New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec and France.

One successful cadet was a young deaf woman who completed the program with help from interpreters and her teammates. The interpreters were provided by the fire department that sponsored the camper.

The instructors of Camp Fully Involved reside all over New England and rank from firefighter, fire marshal, firefighter/paramedic to chief of department, including many ranks in between.

Instructors, both male and female and are the best in their field and many teach all over the U.S. and Canada. The instructors do not receive any compensation and participate on their own time.

The camp is hosted by the New Hampshire State Fire Academy, located in Concord. All technical and classroom programs are held and supported by this state-of-the-art facility.

Camp Fully Involved is sponsored by Fire Instructors and Officers Association of New Hampshire, Daniel Webster Council’s Learning for Life Division, Bergeron Protective Clothing, the Portsmouth Fire Fighters Charitable Association and the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association. Camp Fully Involved is nonprofit program.
