KINGSTON — More than 1,100 students competed Saturday at Sanborn Regional High School and Monadnock Regional High School in the final week of New Hampshire Destination Imagination Regional Tournaments.
Student teams of up to seven demonstrate their creativity competing in open-ended challenges that have a focus on the arts, science, technology, engineering, math and service learning. DI teams must solve their challenge without help of others.
Teams were appraised on numerous areas including results, teamwork, presentation, creativity and innovation. Top teams advanced by Challenge and their age level. Teams that advanced will compete at Destination Imagination State Finals at Salem High School on Saturday, April 6.
The following local teams advanced to the state finals.

Challenge B: Wind Visible, Middle Level: first, Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, Derry; second, Timberlane Regional Middle School, Plaistow.
Challenge C: In Disguise, Elementary Level: first, Sandown Central School; second, Londonderry DI.
Challenge C: In Disguise, Secondary Level: first, On a Tuesday Night with a Full Moon, Pinkerton Academy.
Challenge D: Change in Realitee, Elementary Level: second, Super Five, Danville Elementary.
Challenge D: Change in Realitee, Middle Level: first, Hampstead Academy; second, Hampstead Academy.
Challenge D: Change in Realitee, Secondary Level: first, Londonderry DI; second, Kamikaze Organization of Ducks, Pinkerton Academy.
Challenge E: Twist-o-rama, Middle Level: first, Londonderry DI.
A special DaVinci Award for outstanding creativity, given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity, went to Pinkerton Academy, Team 130-27022.
“The appraisal team was blown away by the improv techniques used by this team in the preparation phase of the challenge,” a press release said. “The team immediately broke into three groups to brainstorm the beginning, middle, and end of the performance. The team then reformed to integrate the pieces. It was an incredibly efficient approach to brainstorming using improv techniques.”
The Renaissance Award for outstanding design, engineering, execution and performance went to Timberlane Middle School, Team 130-94288.
“The functionality of the engineering and exquisite detail of this weeping willow tree made this kinetic art piece memorable,” judges said in a release. “It worked flawlessly and was an absolute masterpiece of craftsmanship. The tree showed extensive evidence of refinement and demonstrated excellent use of materials. The appraisal team was mesmerized by the innovation and artfulness that came together in a way that was simply brilliant.”
