---- — PLAISTOW — The Timberlane Community Band and the Jazz Ensemble present “The Sound of Broadway” for their 13th annual Spring Pops Concert, Dinner and Silent Auction on Thursday, April 4, at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club.
The red carpet will be rolled out at 6 p.m. when guests may partake of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. While perusing the vast array of silent auction items up for bid, they will be treated to popular Broadway medleys performed by Kokopelli, the band’s polished and professional flute ensemble.
Auction items will include sports tickets and memorabilia, regional concert and theater tickets, restaurant and spa gift certificates, automotive services and accessories, and numerous gift baskets for auction or raffle, including those composed by each musical section of the community band. One of the most popular auction items has been the opportunity to “grab the baton” and lead the band as guest conductor.
Pops’ committee co-chairmen Kathleen McGuirk, Lisa Shore, Meaghan Hull and Jeanne Vickery have worked their stylistic magic with backdrops, set pieces and table settings transforming the ballroom into a world of red carpet elegance and Broadway sophistication. A full buffet dinner will offered at 7 p.m., when Timberlane Community Band musicians will commence their musical program. The Jazz Ensemble will feature selections including, “Softly as in A Morning Sunrise” and “Perdido.”
Jazz Ensemble soloist Kathy Giacobbe will offer renditions of “Paper Moon,” “Summer Wind” and “Orange Colored Skies.”
The band, conducted by director Anthony DiBartolomeo and assistant John Mainella, will entertain with pieces from such Broadway blockbusters as “Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,” and a Rodgers and Hammerstein medley from “The Golden Age of Broadway.”
Proceeds from this red carpet gala will benefit the Timberlane Community Band Scholarship Fund and the Timberlane Performing Arts Center. To date, the band has provided more than $15,000 in donations for scholarships and equipment to the Timberlane Regional School District. They have also assisted the Sad Café in Plaistow, a not-for-profit organization that provides a drug- and alcohol-free performing arts venue for community youth.
