---- — SALEM — Some Pelham Road homeowners left their house for an hour or two Monday morning and returned to find they had been robbed.
Police were called to the home at 11:30 a.m. after the homeowners returned and found several thousand dollars worth of belongings missing.
There was no forced entry, Deputy police Chief Shawn Patten said, because the house was left unlocked.
Jewelry, silver certificates from the 1920s and 1930s, and silver coins were among the items stolen, he said.
The burglar or burglars apparently also tried to steal a large TV, he said, but left it behind, perhaps because of its size.
“There were a lot of footprints in and around the doors and windows,” Patten said, “but there was no forced entry.”
Pelham Road is in the western part of town and relatively rural, he said, and there have been burglaries in the area before.
Police do not have any suspects or witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the Salem Police at 893-1911 or Southern NH Crimeline at 893-6600.
