Anxious mother hopes missing son is hiking

Missing student

---- — WINDHAM — The family of Jonathan Zygmont, the missing University of New Hampshire student, today released a recent photo of him with a beard.

They are hoping someone will recognize and help locate Zygmont.

"We have had no news at all," said his mother, Lynne Zygmont of Windham. "Hopefully he is OK."

UNH police said Jonathan Zygmont, 19, was last seen Tuesday night near Prescott Park in Portsmouth.

They do not suspect foul play but said he was believed to be having relationship problems and was despondent.

Lynne Zygmont said her son spends a lot of time hiking and camping, so that may be where he is.

He traveled to Wyoming and Colorado this summer, she said.

In New Hampshire, he likes Mount Moosilauke in Benton and Mount Chocorua in Albany, she said.

There is also the possibility he would try to go to Oklahoma, where he has a sister, his mother said.

Zygmont is a freshman at UNH, where he is studying wildlife and conservation.

He graduated from Windham High School this year.

At Windham High, he was on the honor roll and was a member of the wrestling team as a freshman.

"We want to hear from him or anyone who might have seen him since Tuesday night," his mother said.

Zygmont is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds.

He was wearing black shoes, khaki pants and a brown sweatshirt with the name "Burton" on it in red lettering.

He was carrying a black North Face backpack.

UNH police have asked anyone with information to call them at 603-862-1427.
