Atkinson receives police endorsement

METHUEN — Central District City Councilor Jamie Atkinson has received the endorsement of the Methuen Police Superior Officers Union.

“Jamie is a dedicated city councilor who works diligently representing the best interest of the citizens of Methuen,” said Police Lt. Frank Korn.

Atkinson said he is proud to receive their support.

“I always have the greatest respect for our police officers,” he said. “Their endorsement means a lot to me.”

Condon caught on camera

METHUEN — Mayoral candidate and City Councilor Jennifer Aziz Kannan launched her new campaign website this week. The address is still the same, www.kannanformayor.com, but what’s different is the look and the content. The site has more photos from the campaign trail and more information about the candidate. But what Team Kannan is most excited about is the series of video endorsements from various Methuen people. A new one will be released each Wednesday and Sunday. The first video was done by restaurant owner and City Councilor Michael Condon, who said “(Jennifer) is a people person. She is somebody you can call 24 hours a day. Somebody you can depend on. Somebody you can trust.”

“I must thank Michael and the others who have come forward and gone on camera to endorse me,” Kannan said. “There is no doubt social media has become a major part of campaigning these days and videos are apart of it. Seeing and hearing someone say the words has a much greater impact than sending out a letter.”

As mayor, Kannan would like to see the city better use it social media to better interact with residents and to do a better job of keeping them informed.

“Right now, the city does not have a Facebook page. But look at what Methuen Police has done with theirs. They have over 5,000 subscribers and they do a fantastic job keeping residents informed,” Kannan said. “We should be doing the same on the city side. An informed city is a safe city.”
