Woman, 61, charged in home break

PELHAM — Police arrested a 61-year-old Lowell woman and charged her with breaking into a vacant home yesterday.

Lynda Leonard Olson was charged with one count of burglary. She was released on $ 5,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in the 10th Circuit District Division – Salem on Oct. 21.

Police said they responded to an abandoned home on Mammoth Road shortly after 2 p.m. to investigate a suspicious van with a Massachusetts license plate parked in the driveway.

When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied maroon van with the engine running. They checked the home and discovered the basement door open. They surrounded the home. Just as they were ready to enter the building, a woman walked out of one of the front door, police said.

The woman, later identified as Olson, told police she was just looking around because she knew the home was vacant.

But, based on evidence found on scene, police said they determined she forced her way into the basement and tried to steal several brass door knobs.
