SALEM — The old Interstate 93 southbound bridge over Pelham Road will come down tonight, weather permitting, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
Traffic on Route 97/Pelham Road will be detoured from about 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow to prevent traffic from moving under the bridges during demolition.
The detour route will be South Policy Road to Lowell Road to Stiles Road. No impacts are anticipated to I-93 traffic.
Message boards and detour signs will be in place.
The bridge being removed will be the 18th red-listed bridge that has been removed under the overall I-93 widening project.
The last remaining red-listed bridge is scheduled to be removed in the fall of 2014.
This is part of the I-93 widening and reconstruction project around Exit 2.
The general contractor for the $41 million project is George R. Cairns & Sons Inc. of Windham.
