WINDHAM — The Windham Endowment for Community Awareness will raise funds at winter concerts next week to support the Windham High band and choir trips to New York City.
The School Board unanimously approved the fund drive during a meeting Tuesday.
The band was chosen to participate in the National Concert Band and Orchestra Festival, which includes performing at Carnegie Hall.
“The band’s invitation to Carnegie Hall is a great celebration for the whole community,” Windham Endowment president Diane Carpenter told the board.
The choir, meanwhile, is participating in a Broadway theater workshop.
Carpenter said the foundation wanted to help residents support the students in a small way.
People attending the winter concerts will be asked to donate in support of the trip.
Carpenter said the foundation will match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000.
“Hopefully, we will be over $500,” Carpenter said.
The high school concerts are free and open to the public.
The band concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium.
Performing will be the jazz ensemble, honors wind ensemble and the concert band.
The choir concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium.
Performing will be the concert choir, honors chamber choir and the a cappella choir.
