Police step up patrols near Salem schools

SALEM, N.H. — Police have stepped up patrols at the town's elementary schools after a 10-year-old reported being followed by a suspicious man yesterday afternoon.

The Fisk Elementary student reportedly was followed by a blue car with hood scoops, possibly with temporary New Hampshire license plates. The car was described only as a man in his 30s.

The student was approached by a second man in a green minivan, police said. That driver asked the child if he knew the driver of the blue car. After the youngster said he didn't, the minivan driver told him to go home and tell his parents, Lt. Robert Morin Jr. said.

The van driver told the child the blue vehicle had been seen in the area previously, the driver talking to children.

The case has been assigned to the detective unit.

Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or who sees a vehicle matching this description is asked to call police at 893-1911.
