SALEM — The fire department will receive a $64,775 federal grant for new equipment.
The grant was announced yesterday by Congresswoman Annie Kuster, D-N.H. The money is from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The grants allow fire departments to improve their ability to protect the public.
Salem fire Chief Kevin Breen said the grant will be used to buy new equipment.
“We plan to use these funds to update critical, life-saving equipment that will enable us to continue providing quality fire and EMS services to the town of Salem,” Breen said in a statement.
In her announcement, Kuster said emergency personnel need the most up-to-date equipment available.
“This funding will help ensure that our courageous first responders in Salem have the resources they need to do their jobs as safely and effectively as possible,” she said.
