Cianci bound for Windham
WINDHAM — Controversial former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci is bound for Windham and an appearance before the town Republican Committee, Chairman Bruce Breton said yesterday.
Cianci — author, political commentator and former federal prison inmate — has agreed to speak at a Republican committee meeting, the date and location to be determined, Breton said.
Breton read Cianci’s book, “Politics and Pasta,” while recovering from an illness earlier this year and decided to invite him.
Breton said he has agreed to take Cianci to dinner in Salem.
“He wanted to dine at Tuscan Kitchen,” Breton said.
Cianci, credited with the economic revitalization of Providence during his 21 years in office, later was convicted on a federal racketeering charge.
He hosts a radio talkshow on WPRO, occasionally appears on Fox News shows and has not ruled out a political comeback in Providence.
