---- — SALEM — Edward DeClercq and Linda Harvey are fighting to keep their seats on the Planning Board.

They are running against Albert MacDonald for three-year seats on the seven-member board. The election is March 12.

DeClercq and Harvey have each served on the board for six years. MacDonald is running for the first time.

DeClercq ran for the board a year ago, but lost to Paul Pelletier.

He was appointed in April to complete the term of former Chairman James Keller, who resigned because he was elected to the Board of Selectmen.

All three candidates outlined their views and fielded questions at the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce candidates forum Feb. 21, telling voters they want to help manage Salem’s growth.

An improving economy in the last few years has meant a surge in proposed projects coming before the board, Harvey said.

“Salem is rebuilding at this point in time,” she said.

The projects include many new businesses. But the biggest proposal the board may face is the establishment of a casino at Rockingham Park if state lawmakers approve expanded gambling.
